Lizzie | Founder & Director of Equine Welfare

The driving force and soul of Shadowmere, Lizzie has dedicated over 30 years to elite equine husbandry and stable management. Her lifelong devotion was refined by the memory of her cherished thoroughbred, Irish, whose need for a dignified retirement became the inspiration for founding this sanctuary. Living mere steps from the Monarch complex, Lizzie provides a constant, watchful presence on the estate. Combining her vast experience in geriatric care and veterinary first aid, she orchestrates the daily husbandry routines and personally curates the transparent, high-definition updates that keep our global owners intimately connected to their horses' lives.

Clinical & Operations Advisory

Caroline REVN | Clinical Liaison & Digital Communications

Caroline is our eldest daughter and a vital asset to Shadowmere’s clinical governance. Freshly minted as a Registered Equine Veterinary Nurse (REVN), Caroline works full-time within a prestigious, local equine veterinary hospital. She seamlessly bridges the gap between our estate and advanced clinical medicine, ensuring our handling protocols, biosecurity measures, and geriatric therapy systems mirror hospital-grade standards. In her spare time, Caroline channels her insights into managing Shadowmere's digital presence and public relations.

Our daughter Becca is the operational backbone that keeps the physical estate running flawlessly. Bringing a strict discipline and unparalleled organisational acumen from her background in the British Army, alongside practical experience in groundworks and construction, Becca oversees the physical integrity of the sanctuary. From post-and-rail boundary security to machinery logistics, she approaches estate upkeep with military precision, ensuring the environment remains safe and pristine 365 days a year.

Ellie | Senior Equine Care Specialist

Ellie is an accomplished rider and active equestrian competitor who brings a dynamic energy and high-level turnout standard to our retirement barn. Deeply immersed in the competitive horse world, Ellie understands the exact physical demands that ex-sports horses have transitioned from. She translates this knowledge into meticulous daily care, ensuring our senior residents receive the precise handling, thorough grooming, and individual attention required to transition beautifully into their golden years.

A passionate rider from a young age, Sophie operates a professional grooming and clipping service outside the yard. U, Ginny & Lubey | The Estate Guardians

Shadowmere would not be complete without our resident canine companions. Led by U, our original Hungarian Vizsla, and his energetic daughter, Ginny, the pack has grown to include Lubey—another of U’s puppies, who is a wonderfully charming Vizsla-Labrador cross. While Lubey is exceptionally chilled and relaxed by nature, she instantly matches the unbridled, playful energy of her father and sister the moment they hit the open fields. Together, this harmonious trio patrols our farm boundaries with gentle vigilance, adding a warm, traditional British country-estate charm to our sanctuary.
